Tips for searching the Library Databases

To search the library databases, it helps to have a search strategy. Try combining keywords to capture each element of your research question. Think of synonyms for the different concepts you're searching for; then, group the synonyms using parentheses.

For example, if you're looking for information on whether Hollywood has improved in terms of the racial representation and the available opportunities for Black directors, Black actors, and film-making roles, you could try a search like:

(diversity OR representation) AND (hollywood OR "film industry")

If those search results turn out to be too broad or irrelevant, you can try a more detailed search, such as:

(black OR "african american") AND (diversity OR representation) AND (hollywood OR "film industry")
